Description
This Dragon was built in 1957 by the renowned Hans Wirz Yachtwerft in Steinach on Lake Constance, Switzerland. Built to Johan Anker’s classic Dragon design, she retains the atmosphere of a true wooden racing yacht: mahogany hull on oak frames, wooden mast, wooden boom and traditional fittings. This is not a restoration project. It is a documented, actively sailed and professionally maintained classic Dragon ready for immediate use. The yacht features a wooden mast, wooden spreaders, wooden boom and wooden spinnaker pole. This contributes strongly to her authenticity and makes her particularly appealing to classic Dragon enthusiasts. The cockpit remains simple, functional and true to Dragon tradition. Recent improvements include Dyneema running rigging and upgraded sail handling. Dedicated covers protect the cockpit and sails from weather and UV exposure. The interior is lightweight, practical and focused on sailing. The photographs clearly show the wooden structure and solid oak frames, an important point for any buyer considering a classic wooden yacht. A major structural restoration of the underwater section was completed in 2013. The work included replacement of deadwood, renewal of structural elements and work below the waterline. Photographic documentation is available. In 2020 the teak deck was restored and new SIKA caulking was applied. Work included removal of old material, preparation of seams, new caulking and deck finishing. Solid wooden structural elements and healthy oak frames. This is one of the strongest points of the offer: the yacht does not hide her history; she documents it.
