Gerrit Douwes Barkmeijer bought a shipyard just west of Dokkum's city canal in 1880. This area then belonged to the neighboring village of Aalzum. The yard on the Leeuwarder Ee consisted of four slipways, two spacious carpenter's sheds and a pitch shed. Vink had been a successful ship carpenter here since 1853. From 1883 the yard was called 'Scheepsbouwwerf De Nijverheid, G. Barkmeijer'.
The 'Deo Volente' was built in 1910. She was launched with the name 'De Jonge Feije' and was built on the yard's own account. Barkmeijer owned her until 1925.
The current 4 owners bought the ship in 2018 and sailed IFKS races with her. For sale due to lack of time.
