The Dehler brand has turned 60 - a long history of yacht building and, not known to some, under the brand Dehler Mobile motorhome building.

Dehler Yachts was founded in 1963 by brothers Willi and Heinz Dehler. The sailboats were made of GRP, an innovative plastic at the time and quickly became very popular. Today, the Dehler brand belongs to Hanse Yachts AG - and it celebrates its 60th birthday this year.

Few sailing enthusiasts know that from the end of the 1970s to the end of the 1990s Dehler also built motorhomes in addition to sailing yachts - based on VW Transporters T3 and T4. The know-how from yacht building was also put to good use in the interior installations of the cars - after all, yachts and caravans have one thing in common: the available space in the interior must be used in an optimal way.

At the invitation of Hanse Yachts AG, some enthusiastic Dehler motorhome owners (dehlerfreun.de) met in the shipyard of Hanse Yachts AG in Greifswald in mid-October '23 to see how Hanse sailing yachts are built.

One of the "guides" was Karl Dehler, the son of Dehler founder Willi Dehler, himself an excellent sailor and owner of a Dehler motorhome. He was able to tell us some insider stories. In the photo he explains how an owner's cabin built as a module is inserted into the finished hull.

For us as campers, the visit to the shipyard was very interesting. We recognized many elements from our beloved motorhomes in the yachts. There is only one thing we campers do not miss – the heeling of a yacht.

Here is the link to the new and used Dehler sailing yachts.

Do you also have a Dehler yacht or motorhome?
