Designed for comfortable ocean passages and extended cruises to tropical and cold climates, she is easily handled by a couple, or up to an additional 4 guests. The clever part of the design is that it integrates a proper pilothouse with its own helm and watch keepers navigation station, dining table and bunk for a resting off duty crew mate to be immediately on hand, in addition to the good sized saloon and navigation station area below - features usually only found in much larger boats.

The brief to naval architect Dieter Empacher was to create a strong, very stable boat with the most comfortable sea motion possible so that the boat could be sailed short handed on long passages without the crew becoming exhausted. So different from the modern wedge shaped production boats with open sterns, flat bottoms and tiny fin keels that have a violent motion and high angle of heel in rough weather. Fast and exhilarating they may be, but exhausting too. And the recent Orca incidents show how vulnerable and weakly built they are.

Hull and superstructure are made of seawater-resistant aluminum (5083). Hull: 8mm, superstructure: 5mm. Recovery steps inset into the hull amidships. The hull and decks are insulated with 25 mm foam.

Safety was high on the agenda at the design stage. 4 Watertight bulkheads in case of accident. 3 Bilge pump systems - automatic electric pumps and a 150gph engine driven pump drawing from each compartment plus a manual pump. In the cockpit there are 4 harness fixing points and on each side of the deck s/s jacklines run from the stern to the bow, so crew can be clipped on at all times when on deck. There are grab handles where needed in the cockpit, exiting the cockpit, around the pilothouse and down the stairs to the saloon. Below, the passage galley provides support to the cook, and the saloon's not too wide so that the high fiddles provide secure handholds when moving about in rough weather. Retrieving a man-overboard is made easier by the steps built into both sides of the hull beneath the port & starboard gates in the waist-height guard wires. The propane system has 3 safety features - a solenoid shut off valve, a bubbler and a manual valve.

The owners keep her in excellent condition. Conducted works 2017/2018:

Upper part of hull and superstructure painted.
Decks: New 12mm teak main deck; Coachroof teak deck checked and replaced where necessary, caulked & sanded; Lewmar deck hatches removed and reglazed.
Domestic: New Saloon & aft cabin upholstery;
New Force 10 stove;
Refrigeration systems gas charge checked
Vacuum toilets seals & vacuum pump replaced
Instruments: paper ICS Navtex replaced with digital EasyNavtex ;
TheWirie wifi & 3/4g router upgraded
24v Electrical systems upgraded: Mastervold 100amp house battery charger replaced by Mastervolt 100 amp Chargemaster charging house & engine start batteries; Balmar CAT engine/house regulator replaced with a more efficient Balmar Smart regulator; Balmar 50 amp house alternator replaced with Balmar 100 amp alternator;
Sailing gear: winches serviced; jib furler serviced;
Machinery: CAT serviced - sea water pump replaced –hydraulic suppressor recharged;
Westerbeke generator serviced - seawater pump replaced;
Lewmar thruster serviced.
Maxprop & Spurs cutter serviced.
Proheat central heating boiler serviced.
Yamaha outboard serviced.
Varnishwork repainted
Hull antifouled Trilux 33; Anodes replaced
Safety: flares replaced.
Seales replaced on all hull ports, coach ports and windows.
The yacht was put on slip september 2021 with the following works carried out:

Boot top paint renewed ( hull water line area)
New Antifouling
Anodes replacement of hull, Maxprop and thruster
replacement rope cutter bearing and anode
Maxprop greasing
Thruster gear oil changed
Replacement of rudder stock packing
Replacement os steering cables
All seacocks greased
Simrad / B&G NAC3 autopilot with controls
Subsequently in 2022 forseen with:

8x 225 ah Mastervolt AGM 900 ah @ 24volt hous hold batteries
2x Vetus 100 ah wet batteries for engine. 1x 110 ah wet battery for generator form 2020
Start installation of complete navigation electronics, with Raymarine Cyclone digital 72m open array scanner and 9"Axiom +RV (sonar ready) MFD radar/plotter repeater in cockpit
In 2023:

Raymarine Axiom Multi Function Displays
Raymarine displays for Log, Depth, Wind and Close Hauled (i60/i50)
Raynet Ethernet backbone with RNS network switch and Raymrine ITC-5 Transducer converter
Acoustic Antifouling system

The Caterpillar 3208 was newly installed in 2000. The guest cabin with a centerline double bed in the bow of the ship. In the forepart is also the third cabin with a bunk bed. The 9 Gebo hull windows provide a lot of light and ventilation. Also provided with mosquito nets. In the pilothouse, the 12 mm tinted and toughened glass ensure a beautiful panoramic view. 4 Windows can be opened. In addition to the water tank, the ship is also equipped with a separate drinking water tank (stainless steel of 250 l) with extra filters. Also included: Bosch wash / dry combination. BBQ Magma stainless steel on aft rail.

The hull has the capacity to provide up to 5 tons of stores - 200l fuel,1,000l water, 250l filtered drinking water, 4 propane tanks, 2 outboard fuel tanks, hydraulic oil drum, engine oils, greases and tools, equipment, spares with ample refrigeration for fresh and frozen food, and extensive storage for dry foods, cans, wine, china & glasses (yes real china and real glass!). There are wardrobes, lockers and drawers in each cabin for clothing, a wet locker, & trash locker. A locker for bedding, another for dirty laundry and a washer/dryer.

Most systems have built in redundancy. Power is generated by solar, by the generator and by the engine driven alternator. Fuel is stored in 3 tanks with interchange valves and a circulation system to clean or move fuel from tank to tank to balance the boat. Similarly, fresh water for the showers and faucets is stored in two tanks in case of contamination which also enables trim to be maintained; filtered drinking water is in a third stainless steel tank. In the event of both the electric water pump and its spare failing, water can be pumped by a manual foot pump from any tank. The refrigerator and freezers are chilled by a heavy duty seawater cooled compressor. In the event of it failing, there are two completely independent air cooled compressors, one for the fridge and one for the freezer. These units can also operate when the boat is on the hard, avoiding the need to empty the fridge and freezer.

The ship’s electronics also have built in redundancy, with separate MFD’s for the radar and plotter, Steering is by autopilot or cockpit wheel or pilothouse joystick, and there is an emergency tiller which can be rigged. For communications there is DSCVHF, SSB and SatcomC. Distress calls can be made on DSCVHF, or SSB or by SatcomC to MRCC, and of course there is a 406Mhz distress beacon.

In 2022 the yacht forseen with new Navaids, including:

NMEA 0183 wiring replaced with NMEA 2000 Can Bus
Simrad Nac 3 auto pilot computer
Simrad AP 48 auto pilot controller in Pilot house
Simrad FU80 Follow up Steering Control in Pilot house
Simrad AP44 auto pilot controller in Cockpit
Simrad Precision 9 Heading Sensor
Raymarine Axiom 12 inch Multfunction Display in Pilot house for dedicated Chart Plotter
Raymarine RCR remote card reader & USB in Pilot house
Second Raymarine Axiom 12 inch Multifunction Display in Pilot house for dedicated radar
Raymarine Cyclone Solid State 55 Watt Radar, with 3ft Open Array antenna
Raymarine Axiom RV 9 inch Multifunction Display in cockpit, for Chart plotter, Rader, or Sonar display.

Each multifunction display can display either the chartplotter, or radar, or both on split screen display if wished for.
