Model: Ferretti Altura 840 | Manufacturer: Ferretti Yachts | Condition: good | Category: used boat
The Altura 840 marks an evolution and renewal for the shipyard, extending the historical series born in the mid 70's with the Altura 42, a fibreglass motorsailer inspired by the principles of lightness, comfort and safety. This was followed in the 1980s by the Altura 46 and the Altura 49, "pioneering" models that inaugurated an era of motor yachting with cutting-edge innovation.
Following the launch in 2005 of the Altura 690, a 21-metre yacht that combines the Altura philosophy with the innovative technology of the Ferretti Group, and the Altura 840, the shipyard has completed an important stage in the evolution of the line. Designed by Studio Zuccon International Project in collaboration with theAYT - the Engineering Division of the Ferretti Group - Altura 840 is presented alongside Altura 690, which served as inspiration for the design project, as an extremely comfortable yacht with generous and welcoming spaces and the most advanced technology, complemented by finishes with a nautical feel, including extensive use of wood.
"Altura 840 embodies a perfect synthesis between the concept of an aft cabin motor yacht, with the master cabin aft, conceived for medium and long distance cruising, and the fly bridge" - explains Marco Segato, Vice President Sales of Ferretti Yachts - "based on a design solution that does not allow compromises in the high quality, technology, comfort and design typical of Ferretti yachts. We have high commercial expectations for this model, not only in the 'enlarged' Europe that now includes Russia and Turkey, but also for North America and Northern Europe. Our aim," continues Marco Segato, "is to win a share of "mature" owners with nautical experience who are looking for a totally unique product that allows them to experience the sea for medium to long periods with family and friends. Once again Ferretti Yachts is proud to affirm the maxim of its founder and President Norberto Ferretti: "Boats to be used and not to be shown".
MAIN DECK
Cockpit-Saloon
Stepping aboard, the cockpit, panelled in teak like the entire exterior floor, immediately reveals the attention devoted to maximising space for social interaction: a large rectangular teak table, a fixed bench and three armchairs can accommodate up to eight guests. Stairs from the cockpit give access to the cockpit overhang and flybridge. A sliding door of toughened and obscured glass leads to the spacious saloon. Immediately to starboard is the staircase to the master stateroom. The interiors, as elsewhere, are teak, and the walls are fully lined with boiserie, with light-coloured fabric for the upper sections. The saloon is flooded with light from the two large rectangular windows, and includes a sitting area designed for total relaxation. To starboard is a divan with bar table, armchair and two coffee tables, one of which is central. This section leads to a work area with an extendable desk and armchair. Opposite are two comfortable armchairs with a base unit that conceals the 32" fold-out television. The two armchairs can also be moved close to the divan to seat friends.
Helm console
Two steps up is the raised helm console area to port, while to starboard is a dinette/card room with teak table and small divans for up to eight people. Maximum visibility at the helm is provided by the large windows, which offer a 360° view. The access door to the outside and the staircase to the crew area are located on the starboard side, allowing the crew to move around the boat without entering the saloon and living area, ensuring maximum privacy for the guests.
LOWER DECK
Galley-dining room
Continuing into the saloon, two steps to starboard lead down to the deck section.
The dining area is to starboard, and enjoys the natural light provided by the large casement windows integrated into the hull. A spacious table consisting of two breakfast bars, divans and chairs can accommodate up to eight guests. A sliding door separates the dining area from the professionally equipped galley on the opposite side, with wooden flooring, granite surfaces and ceramic hob. The galley also gives access to the crew cabins - two double cabins and toilets with separate shower - and to the engine room, located between the crew area and the master cabin.
Guest cabins
The guest cabins are located further forward and consist of a double cabin, a twin cabin with L-shaped berth and the forward VIP double cabin. Each stateroom has an ensuite bathroom with separate shower.
Master stateroom
The most impressive area below deck on the Altura 840 is the aft owner's cabin. To create this type of layout, the hull was planned at the design stage to provide greater internal volume and headroom, ensuring total privacy for the owner, with an area separate from the other accommodation and also accessible from the saloon. The master stateroom is full beam, extremely spacious and full of light, thanks to the large side windows and the large window above the head of the bed, facing the overhang and offering a great view of the sea. The spaces are organised to create functional living solutions, with two walk-in wardrobes, a work area to starboard with a retractable desk that can also be used for breakfast, and teak base units to increase the amount of light flooding the interior. There is an en-suite owner's bathroom with twin washbasins and marble surfaces, plus separate shower heads and showers with teak flooring.
EXTERIORS
Bow saloon
The exteriors of the Altura 690 also offer ample space for outdoor living: the aft cockpit is complemented by another spacious lounge area at the bow with two large sunbathing areas, plus a sitting area with a double divan and table with retractable sunshade for shelter from the sun during the hottest hours of the day.
Wheelhouse
The flybridge is equipped with a hard top and a sliding awning to shade the seating area, which consists of a large U-shaped divan with a reclining cushion at the bow, extendable table, fridge and grill and a large cushion at the stern. The cockpit is located to the left. The davit and dinghy are located aft; once positioned on the stern platform, the dinghy can be launched comfortably by means of an electro-hydraulic system, which also provides a wide beach platform for easy access to the water.
INSTRUMENTATION - ENGINE ROOM AND ENGINES
In terms of comfort and speed, the Altura 840 offers features that perfectly reflect the technology that characterises the entire Ferretti Yachts fleet - two Mitsubishi ARG (Anti Rolling Gyro) stabilisers, standard equipment on the Altura 840, reduce rolling by more than 50%. The Altura 840 is also equipped with state-of-the-art Naviop instrumentation, a state-of-the-art control system that provides simple and immediate monitoring and management of consumption, services and alarms via a touch screen. These solutions further facilitate crew access to onboard systems, offering a significant increase in comfort and safety.
The engine room is located amidships, between the owner's cabin and the crew cabin, for total comfort and greater privacy. The intermediate position of the fuel tanks also guarantees silence. The excellent performance of the Altura 840 is provided by two MTU 12V 2000 units, which offer a cruising speed of 27 knots and a top speed of 30.5 knots.
This 2010 Ferretti 840 Altura is very well maintained by a full time crew, equipped with two 1823Hp MTU's each with only 650 engine hours (just run) giving her a comfortable cruising speed of 16kts.

Accommodation for up to 8 guests in 4 ensuite cabins and 2 double cabins with 1 head.

The full beam owner's cabin is located at the aft of the yacht with direct access to the saloon. The Vip cabin is at the bow along with the two guest cabins with 2 single beds each. Each cabin has its own bathroom.

A comfortable dinette is located opposite the galley with a large hydraulic window that can be opened. The bridge is slightly elevated above the galley and dining area. The side decks are accessible from the galley or corridor through side doors.

The flybridge offers plenty of seating for guests, space for sunbathing and entertaining, as well as a very comfortable bow area with seating, table and sunbathing area.

British flag VAT PAID. Comes with zero speed stabilisers, 20Kw generator plus 20Kw auxiliary generator. Hydraulic gangway.

It was designed by Zuccon International Project, who also designed the interior. Zuccon International Project has designed 621 yachts and designed the interior of 610 yachts.

The ALTURA 840 is among the 30% fastest in the world. It is one of 5,592 motor yachts between 24 and 30 metres in length and, compared to yachts of similar size, its cruising speed is 4.75 knots above average, its top speed 3.48 knots above average and its volume 7.47 GT above average.

Ferretti presents this boat as a serious cruising boat. In Italian, Altura translates as 'high land' and 'deep sea', and in both senses the word implies far horizons, exploration and adventure. The boat certainly looks the part: her slender length and robust, virile profile have a much more muscular appeal than the femininity of Ferretti's motor yachts. Paint a Altura grey and it could look quite menacing.

However, if this leads you to expect a hard, uncomplicated interior, then you haven't spent much time among Italian yachts. Inside, the Altura is simply stunning. Sturdy but transparent laminated glass balustrades transmit light throughout the main deck, integrating the sunken dinette and raised helm station into a cohesive living space. And it's not all first impressions. The dining room, with its sociable extendable table in front of a spacious galley, has its own large window in the hull, which actually opens. I don't know about you, but it's exactly the kind of place I'd like to dine in, with a light show courtesy of the night sky and water splashing a few feet away. A pleasure.

Above is a comfortable L-shaped settee on the starboard side of the helm deck, which has excellent views in all directions, but can also be a good place for a snooze, assuming the captain has everything to hand. The Altura's interior is finished in a pleasingly simple scheme of satin teak and white leather. It's not exactly low maintenance, but it's practical enough and looks great.

Down below, guest accommodation is located forward of the galley. The port en suite cabin has berths, the lower one a practical 42" wide, while the starboard cabin has a pair of conventional berths and semi-en suite access to an unusually spacious day head. The forward forepeak VIP suite is also a good size, with plenty of floor space, two generous hanging lockers and a pair of large drawers under the berth, as well as several smaller lockers. Low-level LED lighting is very effective throughout.

The owner's cabin is aft. It is spacious and comfortable, with a generous 1.80 x 1.80m bed, two built-in wardrobes, a sun lounger and windows on three sides. If there is one criticism, it is the headroom, which at 6'3" may be a little low for some owners, but if it were any higher there would be an awkward step between the cockpit and the saloon. Personally, I think the designers made the right choice (but I'm only 5'6").

With no interior passageway, the wheelhouse is accessed from the cockpit via a set of teak steps. Protected by a hardtop with a fabric awning, this area has plenty of seating and dining space, a bar and grill, room for an 11'9" dinghy aft and an interesting tinted panel in front of the helm station to transmit daylight below.

Down below, on the foredeck, there's another comfortable place to eat lunch (or breakfast, or dinner) with large sun loungers and - I'm serious - an umbrella that at the push of a button lifts vertically from the table. Great.

The Altura 840 is certainly a fine example of the yacht builder's art, although it is advertised as a cruising boat, fast and powerful, with 3,600 hp. But to test such a machine, there is only one place to go: the sea.
