New Zealand Man Fined for attempting to "body slam" an orca

A New Zealand man was fined for attempting to "body slam" an orca in a social media video, which officials condemned as "stupid" and "extremely irresponsible" behavior.

In the video, shared on Instagram in February, the 50-year-old Auckland man jumped off his boat near Devonport, where an adult orca and calf were swimming, and boasted about touching the orca while others on the boat laughed. The Department of Conservation, alerted by a member of the public, stated that such actions show a shocking disregard for the welfare of the protected orca, and it is illegal to swim with them in New Zealand.
